a lawsuit against the nfl wednesday. they say the violent hits he took to the head while playing caused him to commit suicide last may. an autopsy found he suffered from a debilitating brain disease. currently about 2,000 former players are suing the nfl over similar allegations. >>> and notre dame linebacker manti te'o is going on the record about his girlfriend who turned out not to be real. the heisman trophy finalist said he was the victim of a hoax in which he was led to believe that the fictitious woman he thought he was in a relationship with died. in an interview with katie couric, te'o explained why he continued to tell the story of her death after he learned of the hoax. >> katie, put yourself in my situation. my whole world told me she died on december 12th. everybody knew that. this girl who i committed myself to died on december 12th. now i get a phone call on december 6th saying that it's lies and i'm going to be put on national tv two days later and they ask me the same question. you know, what would you do? >> te'o is now in florida preparing for t

'o and his sexuality. what i want to ask you is this, there has never been an openly gay player in the nfl, professional sports. as the head coach of football at nevada, do you think being gay could affect someone's football career? >> if i could for one moment, i would like to back up. i don't think in my opinion that the question was appropriate, in my opinion. that being said, do i think that professional major college sports is prepared for an openly gay athlete? i do, i do believe that. i certainly, in my position as the head football coach at nevada, if one of our players was openly gay, it wouldn't change my opinion of him one way or another. we're judged on whether or not we're taking care of our business in the class room and whether or not we're productive as football players. our job is to graduate players and win games. if a young man is doing those two things, his sexual orienitation has no bearing on what's going on. >> all right, coach, thank you for your time. and i want to bring in dr. drew pinsky, the host of dr. drew on call. let me ask you, do you think that was a fair

the nfl, two weeks later, valentine's day, which is my birthday, our son was born, hunter and to have a son born on daddy's birthday and i dreamt of things that fathers and sons do. and from that point on he started having difficulty, four months into his life he was diagnosed and we pretty much after that point almost went in separate directions. and i retired i went to work for nbc and went to work for espn i was on the road a lot. and jill was at home, not only with our oldest daughter, but also our son hunter, who was suffering from a disease called a cravay luko dystrophy and throughout his life jill kept a journal and we handled it differently as men and women do. i was on the road a lot and things weren't quite the way i thought they were going to be. i thought of coming home and everything was going to be fine, but coming home to a house full of people all the time wearing on me and our relationship just started to dwindle. and with the-- you know, with our son and all of his struggles and he had made it not only hard at home, but made it it hard on jill and i as far as our ma
